# Sprite sheet slicer

Cut a sprite sheet into separate frames by columns and rows or by frame size, check the animation, and download every frame as a PNG in one ZIP.

## How to slice a sprite sheet

A sprite sheet stores the frames of an animation, or a set of tiles, side by side on one image. To cut it, the slicer needs the grid. If you know how many frames there are across and down, choose **columns × rows** and the frame size is worked out for you. If you know the frame size instead, say 32 × 32, choose **frame size** and it fits as many whole frames as the sheet holds.

Many sheets, especially tilesets, leave room around and between the frames. **Offset** skips the empty margin at the top left, and **spacing** is the gap between neighbouring frames. Watch the red grid on the preview while you adjust: each box is one frame, and a hint appears if pixels are left over on the right or at the bottom.

Frames are numbered left to right, then top to bottom. Empty cells, common at the end of the last row, are skipped unless you untick the box. The preview plays the frames you kept at the speed you choose, so you can check the order before downloading the ZIP or sending the frames on to the GIF maker.

## Questions

**How do I find the frame size of a sheet?**

Check the asset's readme or download page first; most packs state it, for example 32 × 32. Otherwise count the frames across and down and use columns × rows, or press Detect frame size, which looks for the empty gaps between sprites.

**Why are my frames cut off or shifted?**

Usually the sheet has a margin around the edge or a gap between frames. Set the offset to the empty space before the first frame and the spacing to the gap between frames. The red grid on the preview shows exactly where each cut falls.

**Are the frames resized or recompressed?**

No. At scale 1× every frame is an exact copy of its pixels, saved as a lossless PNG with transparency. Larger scales enlarge each pixel into a sharp square block, which is handy for previews and social posts.

**Can I make a GIF from the frames?**

Yes. Make a GIF sends the frames you kept, in order, straight to the GIF maker in this browser tab, where you can set the timing and loop.
